How long is a counselling session?
Individual counselling sessions last for 50 minutes. If you ever feel like longer or more frequent sessions would be helpful we can talk about that.
Couples sessions last for 60 or 90 minutes.
Where is counselling held?
I offer online counselling via a secure video platform designed for telehealth. This is a great way of accessing therapy from a location that is convenient to you, somewhere you feel comfortable.
I offer in person sessions in a purpose-built room in Lytchett Matravers, not far from Poole, Wareham and surrounding areas.
How often would I come to counselling?
Sessions are usually held weekly at the same time. If this might be a problem for you, if you do shift work for example, I will be as flexible as possible to accommodate you and we can work together to figure out how to have the reliability of regular counselling sessions that still fit with your schedule.
How long would I come to counselling for?
There is no limit on how many sessions you can have. I usually suggest that we start with 6 sessions and then review how the work is going. For longer-term work we will have regular reviews to check that you are still happy with how we are working together.
Do you offer counselling to children?
I only work with adults; if you are looking on behalf of a child, I would recommend searching for a counsellor who has specific training and qualifications to work with children.
Is what I say confidential?
Yes, everything you say in our sessions is confidential and I will explain more about this in our first session. I also take data protection seriously and am registered with the Information Commissioner’s Office.
What happens next?
When you get in touch, please let me know whether you’d prefer online or in person sessions and what your availability is like so that we can find a suitable appointment time for you.
You are welcome to call or email me; if I don’t answer the phone right away please leave me a voicemail or send me a text to let me know a good time to call you back.
In our first session I will ask you for a bit of background, I’d like to understand what has brought you to counselling now, and what you would like to get out of our sessions.
Do you offer a free first session?
I offer a free introductory phone/video call if you’d like one. This usually lasts up to 15 minutes. It is not a session and I won’t ask you to go into too much detail about your situation. This is more an opportunity to ask any questions you may have and to get an idea of whether we’d be a good fit to work together.
